A brief introduction to industrial additives

Industrial additives play a crucial role in chemical reactions by facilitating catalysis and activation. These additives retain their composition, chemical properties, and quality before and after the reaction. They have a highly selective or specific relationship with a reactive system similar to the relationship between a lock and a key. Not all chemical reactions are affected by additives, and their catalytic effect depends on the reaction at hand. For instance, manganese dioxide enhances the rate of chemical reactions in the thermal decomposition of potassium chlorate, but it may not catalyze other chemical reactions. Nonetheless, certain additives like magnesium oxide, iron oxide, and copper oxide can also catalyze thermal decomposition in addition to potassium chlorate.

 


The chemical reaction of the additive produces substances that are capable of regenerating the additive in subsequent reactions. This means that there are no changes in the mass and chemical properties of the substances before and after the reaction.
